How Mature is Our Faith?

The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 4: 14-16: “We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and tossed about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful ways scheming. But by speaking the truth in love we must grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ. From whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.”
The body of believers in general, and individual believers in particular, are under assault in today’s culture. There is a societal attempt to separate and silence or eliminate people of faith from the conversation, and from positions of influence. We must be willing to support each other, and keep ourselves strong if we hope to bring our country back to the values we have honored and cherished for nearly four centuries. The only way this can happen is if we take Paul’s words seriously. WE must create deep habits of faith in our lives like daily scripture study, praying on a regular basis, and keeping God in the center of how we act and make decisions. Also, we as individuals must dig deep into relationships with other believers, preferably congregations of like-minded believers. AS long as we can be separated the enemy can pick us off one by one. Christianity was not created as a solo sport. There is a reason God said where two or more are gathered in my name- there I will be also.
Too often in today’s culture, social media or the media in general is able to provoke Christians into responding as children- that is emotionally instead of spiritually. And in far too many cases people who speak close to scripture, but not fully in scripture are able to distract us from God’s truth and weaken or distorting the message of salvation and hope we are meant to spread. This leads the flock of Christ astray and hurts the credibility of all believers. As we approach election season this year, please- listen carefully to those claiming to be Christians. Is what they are saying and supporting an accurate reflections of the teachings of Christ? If not beware, and do not be led astray. If they are in your community- speak out and question what they are saying. A true believer’s actions and words should match what you know to be true and good according to God’s Holy Word.
