Luke 19:42 says, “Would that you knew the things that make for peace.”
Consider the words of this verse! Jesus knew that the daily life of mankind often has no idea what makes for peaceful living because his or her focus is on the world instead of on God.
During the Hebrew escape from Egypt, Moses had to calm the people down and get them to understand that they were not in this journey by themselves. They had to learn that they were journeying with God to a place that God had chosen for them. One of the lesson’s Moses gave the people was this:
Moses answered the people,
“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13-14 NIV)
Like the Hebrew people, our job as Christians today is to remember “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” So- be still and let the Lord fight the battle that needs fought!
Too often we try to do the fighting ourselves, get frustrated, and throw away our personal peace and then wonder where God is in the midst of our troubles. Like the Hebrews in Exodus, we need to learn that we are not alone. Jesus Christ- the creator God- is with us! We are indwelt by His Holy Spirit every day and all the time. We do NOT face our challenges alone. We DO need to invite God in on a regular basis, seek His peace, and ask for Him to work through us to overcome the challenges that the enemy has placed in front of us in order to keep us from living in harmony with God.
The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:22-27 NIV)
May this be true of each of you as you live out your life for Christ.
Prayer: Father God, help the Prince of Peace settle into my heart during this season and show me how the enemy is trying to turn me away from YOUR peace! Keep my focus on the calm that only the Holy Spirit can give me! AND, Lord, help your blessings shine through me so all will know YOU are God and YOU are with me! Thank you for continuing this peace to flow throw me throughout the coming year, so that YOU may be better known in the world around me. In Jesus’ Holy name, I pray, Amen!
A Blessed Christmas and a Peace-filled New Year to you!
